Best-Selling Capable Ford F-150 Pickup Truck

The 2022 Ford F-150 has been the best-selling pickup truck for several years. It continues to top its competitors because of features like a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot and a large infotainment system. Drivers also appreciate the safety features like Adaptive Cruise Control and Blind Spot Monitoring. They also appreciate the choice of trims, powertrains, and configurations that give the 2022 Ford F-150 a towing capacity that leads the full-size truck class.

Capable Performance Choices

Ford offers several engines in the F-150 lineup. The first is the 3.3-liter V6 with 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque which is standard in the XL and XLT trims. The Lariat trim comes standard with a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 EcoBoost engine with 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque.

Buyers who choose the King Ranch and Platinum trims get a 5.0-liter V8 with 400 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. The Limited and Tremor trims get a 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost with 400 horses and 500 lb-ft of torque. As Ford continues to lead the way in hybrid and electric vehicles, it offers the F-150 with a mild hybrid 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost with 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque. The hybrid engine is available on six trims.

These engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard and four-wheel drive is available.

Impressive Towing Capability

How much can a Ford F 150 tow is based on the drivetrain, cab size, and box. Ford offers three box sizes: 8.0, 6.5, and 5.5 feet. The cab sizes include the two-door Regular Cab with seating for three and the four-door Super Cab and SuperCrew with seating for five and six respectively.

The top towing capacity for the F-150 is 14,000 pounds. Drivers who need this towing capacity should choose a Super Cab with an 8-foot box or the SuperCrew 6.5 or 5.5 box outfitted with the 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost.

Otherwise, the towing capacity of each engine ranges between 8,200 and 14,000 pounds. The F-150 Supercrew 5.5 box outfitted with the 3.3-liter V6 can tow 8,200 pounds and with the 2.7-liter V6, it can tow up to 10,100 pounds. The hybrid V6 can tow up to 12,700, while the 5.0-liter V8 can lug up to 13,000 pounds.

For the high towing capacity and collection of features like trailer brakes, drivers should add the Max Trailer Tow Package to their F-150.
